Fastnacht in Feldheim 2025 πŸŽ‰

What is the historical background of ✨Fastnacht✨?
πŸ‘‰ Shrove Tuesday was established by Pope George (590-604) as the beginning of Great Lent. Before fasting, people wanted to be allowed to indulge themselves once again, as only meatless dishes were allowed during the following period.

When is the celebration in Feldheim?
πŸ‘‰ On 4 January 2025, the time had come again in Feldheim and the festive carnival of the Feldheimers, a celebration full of traditions and unique customs, took place. πŸ₯³

How does the Feldheim carnival work?
πŸ‘‰ Every year, two square masters are chosen to receive colourful ribbons from the unmarried young women as they go from door to door and warmly invite the residents to the festival.
πŸ‘‰ On the big day itself, the square masters open the party by first dancing with the selected single young women. They then ask the men to dance, pin a badge on them for dancing along and lead them to the bar for a free drink.

FunFact
At midnight, when the brass band takes a break, people in Feldheim traditionally unpack the lunch boxes they have brought with them to share their own treats with the other revellers.

This wonderful day ends in the early hours of the morning, and we are already looking forward to the next carnival in 2026! 🎊
